Combining Writing with Animated Video- Xtranormal.com

Xtranormal is a Web 2.0 website that is just plain fun.

According to the website,

'Xtranormal’s mission is to bring movie-making to the people. Everyone watches movies and we believe everyone can make movies. Movie-making, short and long, online and on-screen, private and public, will be the most important communications process of the 21st century.

Our revolutionary approach to movie-making builds on an almost universally held skill—typing. You type something; we turn it into a movie. On the web and on the desktop."

Students can choose from a variety of animated characters and have either one or two actors in their movie. Once they have typed the script for their actors, they can play around with the camera angle, emotions, gestures and other features that enhance the student's creativity. Backgrounds are chosen and the movie is ready to be mixed. If students have made grammar or spelling errors, they will soon know because the characters say it the way it is spelled- humorous at times. Students can go back in and edit their script, then remix it until they are happy with the finished results. Note, xtranormal's website says users should be 13 or older. Teachers of younger students could create the videos themselves to share with the students. According to the website, they are considering creating an educational version. Stay tuned!
